ANNAN P1-P7 TIGERS AT THE VIOLETBANK HOME RUGBY FESTIVAL.

RUGBY FESTIVAL
22ND SEPTEMBER 2019

P1-P3 Match report from: Lindsey Kyle

A super effort from our eleven P1-3 Tigers today in very wet and muddy conditions!

To try and keep everyone moving, it was agreed to play 8-a-side games for 7 minutes with rolling subs.

The Tigers played against Langholm in their first game, with all eleven players displaying a super defensive effort and making big efforts to get back onside after tackles. A great try from Jack and runs from Harris, Theo and Oliver.

Their second game was against a well-drilled Penrith side, again some great defence from Blake, Greg, Merys, and Holly with Annan scores coming from Reuben and Jack.

The third and final game was 10-a-side against Moffat, with more good defending from Imoen, Harris and the rest of the team with many runs and tries from Reuben, Theo, and Woody. Everyone really rallied for that final push to finish the day on a very sodden high.

Big thanks to Langholm, Penrith and Moffat for coming along, the parents for attending and all the volunteers who gave up their time to help the morning run smoothly.

P4-P5 Tiger report from: Heather Tinning

On Sunday past Annan Tigers hosted their first Mini Rugby Festival of the season with Langholm, Moffat and Penrith in attendance.

The weather was not favourable for rugby as it poured with rain all morning, but the players put their heart into playing.

Annan P4/5s are quite a new team with a lot of players who have not played much rugby before and up against the three more experienced teams at this level they succumbed to three defeats but the tigers showed a lot of skill and determination. These players will only get better with training and playing games.

At this level it’s all a learning curve and the P4/5 Tigers are well on their way to playing some good rugby for parents and supporters to see in future games.

Many thanks to our referees for today – Aaron and James. James had his first experience with the whistle and did really well. Also thanks to all the helpers who fed and watered the players and supporters, and of course to our chef on the barbeque Ed and his assistant Elaine. Thank you also to all who kindly donated pots of soup and home baking, and to our visiting teams for supporting us at Violetbank today and braving the weather to join in our Festival.

P6-P7 Tiger report from: Jack Tinning

On a very wet Sunday morning Annan Minis held their first home Festival with Moffat, Langholm and Penrith making it along to play at Violetbank.

In Monsoon conditions Annan were able to field two teams at this level (this is great for the club and the coaches as more players are able to get more game time).

To start, it was decided to play a P7 team against Penrith P7 and P6 team against Langholm P6/7.

Langholm ran out winners in their game and the P7s won 3-0 against Penrith.

The teams were moved about a bit as Annan played Penrith again and won 5-0.

Next up was Langholm and with the teams now a P6/7 team matching Langholm. Langholm were to find they weren’t going to get an easy ride like their previous game. This was a highly entertaining game going from end to end with the Annan team sneaking the victory 4-3.

Last up was our old friends from Moffat. This was a mainly P6 team that took Moffat on and Annan won this 2-1.

Sorry but no try scores were recorded as paper was getting turned to papier-mâché. For the parents and supporters that braved the rain there was some really good rugby on show (far more entertaining than what was on show from Scotland that morning). Although cold and very wet, the kids enjoyed their morning of rugby.

Thanks to our referees AJ and Tam. Also all the helpers in the grubber that fed the players as they came off the pitches and the wet supporters.

Thanks also to Moffat, Langholm and Penrith for coming to a very wet Violetbank.

And last but not least to Heather Tinning for organising the Festival.
