CUMNOCK 2ND XV v ANNAN 2ND XV.

TENNENT’S WEST RESERVE DIVISION 3 (SOUTH)
30TH JANUARY 2022

Match Report from: Ian “Tam” Thorburn

Annan 2nds made the return fixture to Cumnock’s 4G pitch with plenty of players, but lacking experience in numerous positions. Cumnock were bolstered as their 1sts fixture was cancelled and it showed in the first half, with their standoff and inside centre, showing their class.

With the benefit of the wind, every Annan mistake seemed to be punished by the Cumnock number 12, resulting in a halftime score of 33-7.

Annan were hindered by the loss of Jack Graham, who was again demonstrating his excellent recent form, to a knee injury. Our only score was a break by the aggressive Mark Walker-Jones.

Various injuries resulted in the introduction of Malcolm Duncan to the back row and Cameron Little at scrum-half, which galvanised Annan’s efforts with the wind, in the 2nd half.

The more aggressive Annan started to dominate, resulting in further scores by Walker-Jones, a fortunate long range ref decision for Ben Conroy and at the death, a surge from 4′ from Scott Muir.

One conversion from Scott ended the contest at 45-22, so we can claim to have won the 2nd half!

Annan’ MOM was Mark Walker-Jones, who had his best performance so far for Annan.

As a team, we simply need to “front up” and realise that the opposition are only as good, as we allow them to be!
