ANNAN U14-U18 GIRLS AT TRANENT AND EDINBURGH

EVOLUTION RUGBY FESTIVAL / REGIONAL MATCHES
5TH FEBRUARY 2023

U14 GIRLS REPORT FROM JAMES CABLE

On Sunday 5th February the U14 Hornets travelled to Meadowmill Sports Centre for a rugby festival for the East Evolution Festival, playing a total of three, 15 minute, 7 aside games within the festival and an extra game as the girls were keen to play more rugby!

Our 9 girls were joined by five girls from Moffat RFC U14 girls (Rams).

The Hornets first game against Cumnock got off to a great start with two tries in quick succession, they carried the ball well and contested and won all but a few of the rucks. The Captain Shaenah lead from the front winning the ball at the breakdowns and putting several tries past the opposition.

The second game against Dalkeith/Lasswade saw a complete change of players consisting of 3 Hornets and 4 Rams. Having never played together before it took the team a few minutes to adjust and conceded a try but it wasn’t long before the team gelled and they soon got on the scoreboard and convincingly won the game.

The third against Gala/Wands/Dunbar started like the first, Shaenah again leading by example and a flurry of tries, Yvie scored an end to end try evading 5 tackles from the opposition!

The final game was called very early on due to an injury.

The Hornets and Rams played really well as a team and there were some great

individual performances (too many to mention) from girls from both clubs, however for her work rate, commitment in tackles and contesting for the ball in the ruck, player of the match/festival went to Shaenah

A very good performance from the Hornets not just in terms of the rugby they played but the way they conducted themselves throughout their games.

The final scores:

Game 1 – Annan/Moffat 15 v Cumnock A 3
Game 2 – Annan/Moffat 9 v Dalkeith/Lasswade 3
Game 3 – Annan/Moffat 15 v Gala/Wands/Dunbar 3
Game 4 – Annan/Moffat 3 v Boroughmuir/Melrose 3 – Game called due to injury

U16 GIRLS REPORT FROM NICOLE BARLOW

3 U16 girls travelled to Meadowmill today to take part in the East Evolution Series. Joining with Moffat and Berwick to complete numbers, they played 3x 20min games of 10 a-side rugby.

It was a difficult start however throughout each game the girls learned to play with their new team mates and in turn, confidence and skill level was building. Daisy Hilton is improving every week, supporting her teammates when they make a break and plays a great offloading game, with more game time she will be one to watch for the future.

Pocket Rocket Amelia Cameron left defenders in her dust as she weaved and dodged throughout each game, gaining yards and scoring her own try from a break at the halfway line.

Alysha Greenwood was dominant with her tackles and challenged the opposition rucks. After persistent breaks through the defence, Alysha was awarded by a try of her own after powering through the opposition to score from 20m out.

A great day at Meadowmill for the U14 and U16 Hornets who are always on the rise 🏉💛🖤
